Learning and Development Manager

Farnborough Airport Limited (FAL) is the owner and operator of the UK’s only dedicated business aviation airport. What we are looking for:

We are looking to grow our People team and recruit a Learning and Development Manager who will be responsible for the design and implementation of a brand new Learning and Development strategy.  They will share best practice and standardise learning and training across all areas of the business. In addition, oversee mandatory and compliance training to ensure that it is delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.  This is an outstanding opportunity for a Learning & Development Manager to really step up and utilise their experience in a fast-paced environment and make a real positive impact.  The Learning and Development Manager will report into the People Director and work in partnership with the People Manager and People and Payroll Coordinator delivering Farnborough Airport’s People vision as an employer of choice, opportunity and growth.

About this role:

As the Learning and Development Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Contributing towards the design and launch of a new learning, development and training framework that supports the future needs of the Group across its different core competences
  • Audit training across the organisation and provide feedback and standardisation methodology to department managers and department training managers to ensure consistency across all departments
  • Build and be responsible for an annual learning and development calendar
  • Design and deliver e-learning courses, workshops, PDPs, career paths and other training as required
  • Evaluate and report on the success of development plans, ROI and effectiveness of training and development activities
  • Work with departmental managers and department training managers to:
  • Update competency frameworks that sets out the core skills – how these skills will be developed and strengthened
  • Create and implement engaging learning and development tools and ensure the capabilities of the workforce meets the emerging organisational needs and priorities
  • Identify talent and promote internal progression through workshops and individual training plans
  • Support the People Director with the design and evolution of:
  • a line manager and leadership development programme so that the company is able to track development of its line managers and leaders to meet its future objectives
  • a succession planning strategy to identify and track the development of its people
  • Support with the Apprenticeship program, identifying new opportunities and developing and supporting Apprentices throughout their learning journey
  • Champion a culture of learning and development across the organisation and be the subject matter expert on all areas of learning and development
  • Develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with colleagues across the business and external training providers
  • Work in partnership with the wider People department to ensure best employment practice is always adhered to and to assist in the delivery of the People agenda
  • Ensure a fair and consistent approach to training and development across the organisation.

Qualification and Educational requirements:

  • Certificate in Learning and Development Practice or equivalent (essential)
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR degree level

Experience Required:

  • Strong learning and development experience to include planning and coordinating key L&D activities e.g. learning and development outputs from appraisal reviews into a learning and development plan
  • Experience of designing and implementing new L&D practice, strategies and projects
  • Strong generalist L&D experience including on organisational projects, initiatives and supporting new ways of working
  • Experience of conducting training/skills Audits and Training Needs Analysis
  • Confident, articulate, and clear communication skills (verbal and written) with strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and managing conflicting priorities; ensuring deadlines are met under pressure
  • Able to motivate training groups as well as our employees
  • Must have proven experience of working in a fast paced small People/HR Team
  • Confident to work autonomously
