On Saturday 19 May 2012, TAG Farnborough Airport hosted the Twilight Runway Challenge, a unique fun run across the airport’s runway, which has raised over £2,600 so far for the Vine Centre in Aldershot.
Nearly 140 runners, made up of Farnborough Sixth Form College pupils and staff as well as employees from TAG Farnborough Airport and other local businesses, commenced a three or five kilometre course around the airstrip at 8.30 pm, after operations ceased for the day.
The event was organised by Farnborough Sixth Form College and the airport in support of their work for the Community Matters partnership in Rushmoor. This year, Community Matters’ chosen charity is the Vine Centre, which supports homeless and vulnerable people in Rushmoor and is the only provision of its kind in the area.
Every participant aged 18 or over donated £20 to register with younger entrants donating £10. Elaine Turner, TAG Farnborough Airport’s Marketing and Events Manager, hopes to far exceed the £2,600 already raised in registration fees.
“Donations can still be made via the Big Give website and we’re expecting to raise more through individual sponsorships. We were proud to be part of such a great event on Saturday, which brought together the people of Farnborough to the benefit all in the name of a worthy cause,” said Turner.
