Twilight Runway Challenge Raises £6,000

8th June 2016 by Farnborough Airport

Twilight Runway 2016On 4 June 2016, over 360 participants ran, cycled, walked and roller skated around TAG Farnborough Airport’s runway and taxi ways as part of the 5th Annual Twilight Runway Challenge.  This was the greatest ever turn out from the local community for the charity event, organised jointly by TAG Farnborough Airport and The Sixth Form College Farnborough.  Students (past and present) and staff from The Sixth Form College Farnborough as well as employees from TAG Farnborough Airport along with other member companies of the Community Matters Partnership Project (CMPP) participated in the challenge.

The Twilight Runway Challenge is a unique event, taking place on TAG Farnborough Airport’s airstrip, after the airport’s operations have ceased for the day.  This year £6,000 was raised for the CMPP Youth Aspiration Fund (YAF), used to provide grants to support initiatives in the local area that encourage young people to reach their full potential, including mentoring and support groups.

Christine Eustace, Director of Community Engagement at The Sixth Form College Farnborough, said: “What an amazing evening!  The weather was kind to us, every challenger had a smile on their face – even when they had finished – and we raised lots of lovely money for the Youth Aspiration Fund.  A huge thank you to everyone who supported and participated in the event.  It just goes to show what wonderful things can be achieved when organisations work together to support their community.”

Elaine Turner, Marketing and Events Manager, TAG Farnborough Airport, added: “It’s fabulous to welcome so many people along to the airport after operations on a Saturday evening to support this event.  It’s quite a unique opportunity to run, cycle, skate down the runway and taxiways of an airport and participants love having the option of a 3, 5 or 10k distance to suit their ability, which makes it more fun.  There’s always such a great atmosphere from when people start arriving for registration, moving into the warm-up, then moving people to the actual start line.”
