What we are looking for
Reporting into the People & Assurance Director, the Assurance and Risk Manager is an opportunity for an experienced subject matter expert who possesses the skills to drive the company’s assurance and risk management activities across a range of legislative, regulatory and governance topics.
Alongside delivering the Assurance and Risk strategy, a primary focus will be to ensure the effective running and administration of the Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Risk (HSSER) Committee, which takes place every four months. Chaired by the CEO, the HSSER is a sub-committee of the Board and is the primary corporate governance channel for overseeing assurance and risk performance across the Company. Consistent with best practice, the Assurance and Risk Manager will also have a dotted line into the CEO.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in delivering a range of assurance and risk management activities to a high standard, providing confidence to the business that the operation and risks are effectively managed, and the interests of the Company are protected.
About the role
The Assurance and Risk Manager will:
Assure that legislative and regulatory requirements (set by external parties, governing bodies and internal policies and procedures) are adhered to, identified risks are controlled and audit recommendations are actioned. Assurance areas include, but are not limited to:
- Health, Safety, Security and Compliance.
- Business Continuity, Resilience and Supply Chain processes.
- ISO Management System compliance (45001:2018 & 14001:2018).
- Governance, Change Management and Enterprise Risk Management.
- Corporate Ethics and Compliance.
- GDPR and Document control.
- Assure risk management activity across the business by working with stakeholders to better understand risk, risk documentation (registers and risk reviews) and risk reporting. Also, to drive and facilitate discussions on assurance and risk management at meetings.
- Co-ordinate and administer the HSSER Committee promoting regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices. Ensure the Committee operates efficiently and compliantly by planning meetings, compiling board materials, and ensuring accuracy of meeting minutes and records.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on regulatory changes and share knowledge with colleagues.
- Manage a direct report within the Assurance & Risk team.

- The identification and management of occupational risks factors that may affect an employees’ psychological response to their work and workplace conditions.

- Support the team with ad-hoc activities/tasks as reasonably requested.
About you
Essential
- Experience in audit/assurance or risk management field.
- Experience of administration and board secretarial duties.
- Proven track record of successful execution of assurance activities and practical application of Risk Management Frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Able to work with multiple stakeholders and developing partnerships.
- Able to show initiative and act proactively.
- Resilience and the ability to cope with ambiguity and change.
- Evidence of Right to Work in the UK.
Desirable
- Professional qualification in assurance, risk management, or audit.
- Legal and/or Corporate Secretarial experience beneficial.
- ISO standards knowledge (45001:2018 and 14001:2018).
- Legislation knowledge (e.g. GDPR).
- Policy development and implementation process experience.
- Project management experience.
