What we are looking for

We are seeking a proactive and passionate Occupational Health & Safety Business Partner (OHS Business Partner) to join our dynamic Airport Safety Team. Reporting to the Airport Safety and Compliance Manager you will be responsible for the practical, policy and regulatory elements of the Occupational Safety Management System. In this role, you will help shape and uphold a culture of safety, wellbeing and regulatory excellence by working collaboratively with our teams across the airport.

The role involves partnering with aligned departmental managers to provide expert support, utilising data insight to identify trends and driving the implementation of preventative measures and local improvement plans. The ideal candidate will possess an uncompromising focus on safety, will thrive on challenges and collaboration and will have an ability to communicate at all levels.

About the role

  • Maintain the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management System in accordance with the ISO45001 standard and delivery of the OH&S elements of the overarching Airport Safety Strategy. To include wellbeing where related to ISO45001.
  • Ensure the Company remains compliant with applicable OH&S Regulation, Legislation and Company Policy, Procedures and Standards.
  • Manage the Company’s OH&S Audit Programme, completing appropriate audit and inspections using HSE legislation and BS ISO45001:2018 standards, to identify areas for improvement and to close findings in agreed timescales.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents in accordance with defined protocols to identify root causes and follow up any safety actions. Communicate and work with stakeholders to implement safety actions and communicate safety alerts where applicable.
  • Ongoing management of OH&S reporting packs and KPI for internal purposes and when required for the Shareholder. Attend meetings where required or requested
  • Lead on the onboarding of new suppliers regarding OH&S and Food Hygiene.
  • Work in partnership with managers, employees, customers, contractors, tenants and third parties on OH&S matters, policies and procedures as required to promote a safety culture.
  • Support line managers with the following:
  • Ensure safe working conditions are maintain across all departments and where required ensure that reasonable workplace adjustments are in place.
  • Pre-employment health screening, ‘Return to Work’ meetings (with the Line Managers), OH&S referrals and Health surveillance.
  • Risk Assessments e.g. operational safety, work tasks, illness, injury, disability, pregnancy & post-natal, Permit to Work, COSHH.
  • Coordination of occupational health and safety risk assessments.
  • Support the wider Airport Safety Team as directed to ensure the team delivers The Airport Safety Strategy.
  • Be forward thinking and innovative in their approach to manage any OH&S concerns
  • Be available to departmental managers with practical guidance or specialist advice as required.
  • When required work with the People & Wellbeing Team to review and implement initiatives aligning to ISO45003 guidance or other areas where they could add value.

  • Demonstrate engagement with and adherence to the Company’s policies, procedures, guidelines, wellbeing initiatives and reporting channels to ensure all work is carried out safely and to the highest standards, including but not limited to:
  • Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Compliance and Environmental standards / legislation.
  • Aerodrome license and CAA standards.
  • Appropriate Workplace Behaviour, UK Modern Slavery and General Data Protection & Retention (GDPR) Policies.
  • Support the team with adhoc activities/tasks as reasonably requested.

About you

Essential

  • Evidence of Right to Work in the UK.
  • Full 5-year employment/educational history required (with no unaccounted-for gaps).
  • Able to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check (CRC) certificate to the required security clearance level for this role. 
  • Hold a full valid UK Driving License or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH National General certificate.
  • Working knowledge and experience of practical application of Safety Management Systems and the ISO 45001:2018 standard.
  • Auditor qualification or demonstrable experience.
  • Safety experience within an airport or similar environment.
  • Experience conducting investigations.
  • Understanding of the procurement process.
  • Have a proven ability to work autonomously to achieve targets and deadlines.
  • Demonstrable ability to learn quickly and apply learning effectively in a practical context.
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to meet the needs of the business and navigate ambiguity.
  • Great team player, able to contribute to a positive and healthy team environment.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Have thorough working knowledge Health and Safety legislation and best practice to assist with compliance and continuous improvement.

Desirable

  • IOSH Managing Safety or equivalent certificate.
  • Influencing and Leadership qualification.
